Once an injection system has been properly cleaned, flow tested, and calibrated, it should be good to go for several years with minimal maintenance.  There’s one little thing that will put the kibosh on that, —Dirt—.  It’s the biggest problem with any type of fuel injection system.

Protect Your High-Performance Fluid Systems from Dirt

Need a proper filter to protect your high-performance fluid systems from dirt?  Kinsler filters have minimum pressure drop, huge amounts of filter media area and very premium media which is several times the cost of  “commercial” media, but is necessary for — The Right Protection.

Many of the filters being marketed are too restrictive (causing too much pressure drop), or have too little filter media area (causing them to clog up quickly), or have filter media that is of such poor quality that it lets through dirt that it isn’t supposed to.

Monster Mesh fuel filters come in three housing sizes and many micron ratings.  For injected or carbureted fuel systems. They’re popular with the Indycar Racing League, as well as for those who do drag, sprint, midget, street, off-road, and road racing.  They’re also a top choice for monster truck, pull truck, and tractor pullers.

The Black or Blue anodized housing on Monster Mesh filters ensures protection for the element.  And they are for use with gasoline, oil, transmission, and differential fluids. The Hard Anodized version is METHANOL compatible.

Kinsler’s paper and stainless-steel mesh elements have deep pleats that allow for a very large amount of surface area to fit into a compact housing – enabling the assembly to have a very low pressure drop for top system performance. The element is also o-ring sealed to the end cap.

Monster Mesh fuel filters are offered with an optional quick-release, T-bolt-type stainless steel mounting bracket and are available with an internal one-way check valve and a safety relief valve.

It’s important to remember that fuel pumps are very sensitive to disturbances in the inlet hose.  Therefore, before you install any filter, you must ensure it’s the correct one, or it could damage the pump and cause some real headaches for you.  Never allow return fuel to go back into the pump’s inlet hose. As fuel leaves the pressurized side of the fuel system and enters a non-pressure area, the fuel can flash vaporize, causing damage to the pump and resulting in erratic engine performance.

You can always consult with one of the Kinsler technicians.  They are glad to assist you on selecting the proper Monster Mesh filter and micron rating for your specific application.

EFI System

All the injector manufacturers would like to have 3 micron filtration to their injectors, but they know that 3 micron filters plug up much too fast, so they all recommend 10 micron.    25.4 microns is one thousandth of an inch, so 10 micron is about .4 thousandths; far too coarse.

As NASCAR ramped up to start running EFI in 2012 we worked on a new filter concept… a two layer element… a top 10 micron paper layer that catches about 90% of the dirt to protect a 3 micron fiberglass lower layer.  This fiberglass uses premium fibers laid down by a CNC machine…it has the most precise micron rating of any filter material; is used in the most expensive filtration systems for aircraft and premium hydraulic systems.

Lucas Mechanical System

Due to extremely tight tolerances, Lucas equipment possesses several filters throughout its mechanical system. There’s the mechanical pump inlet, the main hose from the pump to the metering unit, the metering unit inlet fitting, and then there’s one on each injector. A Lucas system must be kept 100% clean. The smallest dirt particle can mean disaster.

What kinds of Monster Mesh fuel filters are available from Kinsler?

Kinsler manufactures three different housing sizes of Monster Mesh filters.  They include the Monster Mesh Fuel filter, the MEGA Monster Mesh Fuel filter, and the ULTRA Monster Mesh Fuel filter.  All of these are available for purchase directly on the Kinsler Fuel Injection website.

What is the PSI ratings for each of the Kinsler Monster Mesh Fuel Filters?

Operating Pressure:  400 psi.  (The minimum burst pressure from our tests is 1,640 psi.)

Each filter assembly is purged at 2,000 lb/hr of gasoline to blow any dirt out of the clean side, then pressure tested for leaks at 160 psi before shipping.
